Gliders Sailplane

The rebel flying club was originally found in some part for the enjoyment of unpowered flight. This interest in gliding continues today with members enjoying a straing involvment in all forms of gliding including:
  • Aerotowing: The club has a number of tug aircraft capable of towing gliders from 2m to 6m wingspans. The club host local and invitation aerotow events a few times each year. This form of gliding is increasing in popularity.

  • Thermal soaring: The club has an electric winch and some members have their own bungee's for launching the purist form of gliding. Many members in the club still fly thermal gliders, however with the advances in electric technology most members now choose to fly electric sailplanes for ease of launching.

  • Slope soaring: Being located near the coast members are close to a number of prime slope soaring locations. Most sites are "foamy" only due to restricted landing sites. The latest slope action is the increaing numbers of pilots enjoying dynamic soaring at the Wybung soarers club.

  • Old timers: Many members of the club are also actively involved in the oldtimer competition scene. The club holds a bi-annual competition over two days. These aircraft are primarily early free flight models converted for basic 3 channel control and the main emphasis is on the gliding section of the flight (engine up then cut and glide).
