Our Town Model Show 2002.

Rebel Flying Club was the only flying club in attendance. The display area was smaller than last years, but we still had enough room to have the "Round the pole" (RTP) demonstration going. Watching the combat was hilarious and it drew in the crowds and also NBN television. The basic gist of this is to take out the other plane until it is no longer flyable and believe me, this is harder than it looks. The planes still managed to fly with horrendous amounts of damage.

Also we had a large range of aircraft on show. Aero tow gliders, Thermal gliders, Rubber powered, Internal combustion (Including a couple large scale versions).

Model Show photos:

I have now added both instalments of photos from the "Our Town Model Show". The latest photos are at the top of the list.

  • A top view of a Darren's Dectahalon
  • Pauls DG-600 swininging in the breeze
  • Tom's Eliminator swinging in the breeze
  • An excellent Cockpit detail view of the Sea Fury.
  • Jason's Prophet on display. This version does not have spoilers.
  • Jeff surveying the damage to his round the pole aircraft.
  • Jeff's ducted fan round the pole Jumbo
  • Proof that the Jumbo does fly
  • Trent works on Jason's RTP model, whilst Jeff (Back towards us) works on his.
  • A close up shot of the CAP's engine.
  • Taylor Flanders Vought Corsair. Judging by the lack of ventilation holes on the engine fairing, this aircraft isn't quite finished. Hoping to see it flying soon.
  • Aircraft Display line-up. A primarily young audience watch the "Round The Pole" (RTP) event enthralled, whilst the impressive static display, goes temporarily unnoticed!
  • A different view of the static display. A prominent feature of the Clubs display is this 1/4 scale CAP 232 aerobatic plane owned by Geoff Lowther.
  • The other cornerstone of the display was this Sea Fury. This beautiful example of 1/4 scale building, is powered by a 300 twin OS 4 stroke and is yet to fly.
  • Club members at the display. From left to right:
    Taylor Flanders (Squatting)
Trent Collins and Grant Schofield (Fooling with miniature RC cars)
Tom Tobin facing away from the camera and squatting
Darryn Prior looking at model aircraft plans and finally
Paul Collins walking towards the other members.
The models are the prophet and eliminator 134, RTP planes on the table.
  • The 1/4 scale CAP 232 with its engine cowl removed, to show the detail of the huge 150cc engine. The CAP is owned by Geoff Lowther and puts out 100 pounds of thrust, and weighing in at only 38 pounds gives a power to weight ratio of about 2.5 to 1.
  • A well built example of the Supermarine Spitfire.
  • RTP Plane meets composite technology. This Grant Schofield's Composite Combat Creation (C^3). It is made up of Carbon Fibre wings, Carbon Fibre Honeycomb fuselage and Correflute tail section
  • Another kill for the C^3. This time taking out Trent's Balsa flyer. Trent's plane is a phoenix as such, it has risen from the ashes of last years RTP, to be once again flown and destroyed this year.
  • A view along a different axis of the display.
