The Pixie!

It has been a while since we have had any old timers at the club, but Bob Rowe has finished his new model. So here it is:

  • Bob, Paul and Dave, get Bob's Pixie up and running.
  • Bob's Pixie.
  • A side view of the Pixie.
  • An overview of the Pixie. I believe the Pixie is in the Antique class.
  • A close up of the diesel motor in the Pixie. Bob was saying that this very motor one the world championships in 1950. The only thing is I can't remember which class. Bob says it still runs beautifully.

Rebel Old timer Competition 2003:

Comp day pits

The Rebel Flying Club again hosted their annual Old timer event on the 26th and 27th of July. With great support from competitors, organizers and sponsors the event was again a great success. The events scheduled were as follows:

Saturday
Sunday
  • Gordon Burford
  • Nostalgia
  • Duration
  • 1/2A Texaco
  • Texaco
Unfortunately the weather on saturday was not good, with high winds all day. Gordon Burford was cut short to three rounds, with no need for a fly off due to the bad weather. The rest of saturday was spent relaxing at the field and flying Paul Farthings sport model, which handled the wind much better than the Old timer's Duration launch
Texaco launch Sunday dawned a much better day, with some wind early but easing as the day went on. The rest of the four events were flown during a busy but enjoyable day. There was plenty of lift around as shown by the long fly off times (over 35mins in 1/2A Texaco). The canteen was again run by some very lovely ladies who kept the fliers and spectators stomachs full over the weekend.

A little controversy to finish the day as the three winning models were weighed at the conclusion of the event. Michael Towell flying a borrowed model, was disqualified from first position after it was discovered his model was underweight. After a slight reshuffling of the results, the presentation was underway.

Controversy
RC-1 Crash result As with each Rebel Old timer event, great prizes were offered to all the competitors, not just the place getters. This is due to the great sponsorship provided by local model shops and local businesses. On behalf of the Rebel Old timer Club, I would like to that all the sponsors that took part in this years event.
